What is CVE-2025-65025?

The esm.sh CDN, used for modern web development, was found to be vulnerable to a path traversal issue during the extraction of NPM package tarballs. This vulnerability allows an attacker to create a malicious NPM package with specially crafted file paths, potentially enabling them to write files to arbitrary locations on the server. This situation arises as files can escape the designated extraction directory, posing significant risks to server integrity and security. The vulnerability has been addressed in esm.sh version 136.
