Linux Kernel Ext4 Vulnerability in Inline Data Handling
CVE-2025-68264
What is CVE-2025-68264?
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ext4 filesystem allows outdated inline data size values during write operations, leading to potential system crashes. The issue arises when the cached inline size becomes stale due to concurrent xattr operations, which modifies the inline data size after an initial check. A corrupted write can trigger a kernel BUG, causing instability. This vulnerability has been addressed by recalculating the inline data size during critical operations to prevent using stale values.
