What is CVE-2025-68276?

The Avahi framework, which enables service discovery over local networks using the mDNS/DNS-SD protocol, is susceptible to a denial of service attack. In versions up to 0.9-rc2, unprivileged local users can crash the avahi-daemon when wide-area service discovery is disabled. This is achieved by utilizing the AVAHI_LOOKUP_USE_WIDE_AREA flag through D-Bus, either by invoking the RecordBrowserNew method or by creating hostname/address/service resolvers that generate internal record browsers. This exploitation can disrupt service discovery functionalities across the network.
