What is CVE-2025-68659?

A vulnerability exists in Discourse, an open source discussion platform, prior to versions 3.5.4, 2025.11.2, 2025.12.1, and 2026.1.0, whereby an attacker can exploit the username change feature. By sending large JSON payloads to the username preference endpoint, malicious actors can induce significant server delays and exhaust server resources. This exploitation results in a degrading experience for legitimate users by slowing down server response and consuming system resources. The vulnerability has been patched in the specified versions, and no workarounds are available.
