Linux Kernel Synthetic Event Registration Vulnerability
CVE-2025-71125
What is CVE-2025-71125?
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel allows for unsupported synthetic events to be registered incorrectly, leading to faulty performance monitoring. When the tracepoint registration functions are called with a NULL function pointer, it results in a warning and possible system instability. Proper error handling has been recommended, reverting to a -ENODEV return, which prevents warnings and allows the performance recording to fail gracefully instead. While full support for synthetic events is pending, this fix aims to mitigate immediate issues.
