What is CVE-2026-0648?

A significant vulnerability exists in the ThreadX real-time operating system due to flawed error-checking logic within the CreateCounter() function. This issue arises when the return value of osek_get_counter() is not properly validated, leading to misinterpretation of error conditions. When the counter pool is exhausted, the faulty handling allows illegal memory access through a wild pointer, potentially causing immediate HardFaults or silent memory corruption. The exploitation risk includes attacks aimed at depleting the counter resource, which may lead to system instability and unauthorized access to memory.
