What is CVE-2026-102474?

A buffer overflow issue has been identified in Dash, a shell command interpreter, where the printf built-in reserves insufficient memory for certain Unicode escape sequences. When a local user provides an escape token that requires more storage than allocated, it results in writing beyond the reserved memory. This vulnerability can potentially be exploited when a user executes printf or echo with the %b format specifier, particularly via dash -c or through positional arguments. Such exploitation may lead to unintended behavior in shell scripts and could compromise the integrity of system operations.
