Out-of-Bounds Write Vulnerability in SSSD NFS Idmap Plugin of Red Hat Products
CVE-2026-104036

5.8MEDIUM

What is CVE-2026-104036?

A vulnerability has been identified in the NFS idmap plugin of SSSD, where the plugin improperly handles cached user and group names. When the plugin encounters a cached entry that exceeds the destination buffer size, it continues to copy data without adequately aborting the operation. This oversight allows a local attacker to engage in identity lookups that resolve to oversized cached entries, resulting in an out-of-bounds write. The primary consequence of this flaw is a Denial of Service (DoS) scenario, leading to the potential crash of the identity mapping service, along with risks of memory corruption in adjacent processes.
