What is CVE-2026-104715?

A flaw exists in the cifs-utils, enabling a local user to perform privilege escalation. This vulnerability occurs when a privileged service mounts a Common Internet File System (CIFS) share using a user-controlled credentials file. The lack of proper input sanitization allows unauthorized mount options to be injected, potentially letting attackers bypass permission checks and execute commands with administrative (root) privileges.

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
