What is CVE-2026-110659?

The ELFIO library, up to version 3.12, contains a vulnerability that allows attackers to exploit a NULL pointer dereference through the relocation_section_accessor's get_entry() function. By sending a specially crafted ELF file with an unvalidated sh_link index, an attacker can cause affected applications to crash, leading to a denial of service. The vulnerability arises when the SHT_REL or SHT_RELA sections contain a dangling sh_link, causing an attempt to dereference a null pointer during operation. Developers and users of ELFIO should take precautions and update their implementations accordingly.

Affected Version(s)

ELFIO 0 <= 3.12

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
