What is CVE-2026-110716?

Unshield, a tool developed by TwoGood, is susceptible to a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability present in versions up to 1.6.2. This flaw is triggered by the unshield_get_file_table() function when it processes unchecked cabinet header offsets, potentially allowing attackers to read beyond allocated heap memory. By crafting a malicious InstallShield cabinet file with out-of-range file_table_offset values or excessive file counts, attackers can exploit this vulnerability to crash the Unshield tool or any applications that utilize its library. This could lead to service disruptions or unauthorized access to memory contents.

Affected Version(s)

unshield 0 <= 1.6.2

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
