What is CVE-2026-111140?
The libregf library through version 20260526 is susceptible to a heap out-of-bounds read due to improper handling of value data sizes in its function libregf_value_item_read_value_data(). An attacker can create a malicious version 1.0/1.1 REGF hive that, when processed, can lead to the exposure of adjacent heap memory, potentially allowing unauthorized access to sensitive data or causing the application, such as regfexport and plaso, to crash.
Affected Version(s)
libregf 0 <= 20260526
Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)
PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
