What is CVE-2026-111156?

libTiMidity versions up to 0.2.8 contain a vulnerability in the init_soundfont() function, located in src/sndfont.c, which can lead to out-of-bounds memory access. This allows attackers to exploit unvalidated SF2 preset header bank and preset values. By crafting a malicious .sf2 file with indexes that exceed the 128-entry limits of tonebank or drumset arrays, attackers can trigger unintended heap memory reads and writes, resulting in application crashes and potential memory corruption.

Affected Version(s)

libtimidity 0.2.8

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
