What is CVE-2026-111157?

SoX versions up to 14.4.2 are susceptible to a heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability located in the function lsx_ms_adpcm_block_expand_i() within the file src/adpcm.c. This issue arises from the processing of WAV files with an anomalous samplesPerBlock value in the fmt chunk. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability by providing a specially crafted MS ADPCM WAV file to SoX or any application utilizing the libsox library, enabling them to write a controlled 16-bit sample beyond the allocated heap buffer, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution.

Affected Version(s)

sox 0 <= 14.4.2

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
