What is CVE-2026-111218?

Netgate pfSense CE versions 2.7.0 through 2.9.0 are susceptible to an OS command injection flaw that can be exploited by authenticated users who have Traffic Shaper Limiters privileges. This vulnerability allows attackers to execute root commands by manipulating the limiter number field. Specifically, by submitting a concealed 'number' value when modifying a limiter and subsequently removing it, the system can inadvertently pass an unquoted value to dnctl through /bin/sh with root permissions. This flaw poses serious risks as it opens pathways for unauthorized command execution.

Affected Version(s)

pfSense CE 2.7.0 <= 2.9.0

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
