What is CVE-2026-111226?

The OS command injection vulnerability in pfSense CE versions 2.4.5 through 2.9.0 allows users with Advanced Admin Access to execute arbitrary commands as root. By manipulating settings within the Login Protection configuration, specifically the sshguard thresholds (such as block time or detection time) to include newlines or shell command substitutions, authenticated attackers can modify the sshguard.conf file. This unvalidated input, when executed, can lead to command execution with root privileges upon system restart, posing significant security risks to the affected systems.

Affected Version(s)

pfSense CE 2.4.5 <= 2.9.0

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
