What is CVE-2026-111920?

The Vikunja 2.6.0 version has a significant broken access control vulnerability in the getProjectAccessForUser function. This flaw allows a user's project permissions to escalate based on the maximum permission levels found in the project hierarchy, disregarding the specified lower-permission settings of child projects. In practical terms, a user who possesses write rights to a parent project, but only read rights to a child project, could still manipulate and modify tasks and content within the child project. This behavior poses significant security risks as it permits unauthorized access and changes, undermining the integrity of project management within Vikunja.
