What is CVE-2026-112008?

The libmng library, up to version 2.0.3, suffers from a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the mng_read_ordr() function. This issue arises because the sizes of the ORDR entry buffers are determined by 5-byte on-wire records, rather than fitting in standard 8-byte in-memory entries. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability by crafting malicious MNG files that include specific MHDR, DHDR, and ORDR chunks, which may lead to the overwriting of memory beyond allocated regions. As a result, the vulnerable application can crash or run arbitrary code supplied by the attacker, potentially compromising system integrity.

Affected Version(s)

libmng 0 <= 2.0.3

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
