Heap Out-of-Bounds Vulnerability in GIMP Affecting Image Processing
CVE-2026-112257

7.8HIGH

What is CVE-2026-112257?

A security flaw exists within GIMP's PSD thumbnail resource loader, which performs a BGR-to-RGB channel swap using a fixed 3-byte stride. This implementation fails to verify the color format of the JPEG thumbnail, allowing a specially crafted grayscale PSD thumbnail to trigger a heap out-of-bounds read and write during the processing of the image file. This can result in application crashes and potentially enable arbitrary code execution when a user opens or browses the affected file.
