What is CVE-2026-112279?

The rdesktop RDP client, up to version 1.9.0, is affected by a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability within the process_bmpcache2() function. By exploiting this flaw, malicious RDP servers can craft specific revision-2 bitmap cache orders that, when processed, may lead to a denial of service by crashing the client application. This occurs when attackers send uncompressed bitmap orders featuring anomalous width/height parameters or improperly formed payloads, resulting in memcpy() reading beyond allocated buffers. Proper mechanisms to validate incoming data are essential to mitigate this risk while using rdesktop.

Affected Version(s)

rdesktop 0 <= 1.9.0
