What is CVE-2026-112399?

The Pillow Python imaging library, in versions from 8.1.0 to 12.0.0, contains a vulnerability that permits a crafted Animated Portable Network Graphics (APNG) image to exhaust memory resources. This occurs when an APNG with an initial small frame and a disproportionately large canvas is processed, leading to significant memory allocation without loading actual pixel data. When the Image.open() function attempts to position to frame zero, it inadvertently performs a full-canvas allocation, which can result in a denial of service. The issue has been resolved in version 13.0.0.

Affected Version(s)

Pillow >= 8.1.0, < 13.0.0
