What is CVE-2026-112404?

A vulnerability exists in the Pillow Python imaging library where, from versions 8.1.0 to 13.0.0, improper handling of TIFF tile and RGBA decode paths can lead to reading beyond intended row data. This discrepancy arises from differing interpretations of duplicated PhotometricInterpretation or BitsPerSample tags between Pillow and libtiff. Notably, Pillow fails to validate if the required input row data fits within the constraints of what libtiff produces, increasing the risk of adjacent heap data exposure through manipulated TIFF files, which can ultimately result in crashes or unintended data disclosure when processing such files. This issue is addressed in version 13.0.0 of Pillow.

Affected Version(s)

Pillow >= 8.1.0, < 13.0.0
