What is CVE-2026-112937?

The filelock library in Python allows for platform-independent file locking. Versions 4.1.0 to 4.2.1 contain a vulnerability in the ReadWriteLock functionality, enabling a local user with rename permissions in a non-sticky parent directory to potentially view an active filename or create a misleading dead-owner sweep name. This could lead to unauthorized file deletions through renaming sibling directories, raising serious security concerns. The issue is addressed in version 4.2.1.

Affected Version(s)

filelock >= 4.1.0, < 4.2.1
