What is CVE-2026-115357?

Prior versions of OpenBao, specifically versions before 2.6.4 and 2.7.x before 2.7.1, exhibit a critical flaw related to improper audit logging. When using specific endpoints such as sys/generate-root, sys/rekey, and sys/rekey-recovery-key, the system fails to log response audits despite successfully recording request audits. This allows an attacker to generate root tokens or perform rekey actions without leaving a trace, effectively bypassing key security measures and complicating forensic analysis after a security incident.

Affected Version(s)

openbao 0 < 2.6.4

openbao 2.7.0 < 2.7.1

openbao 2.6.4
