Incus versions 7.0.0 prior to 7.0.2 and 7.1.0 prior to 7.5.0 are susceptible to a path traversal vulnerability. This issue allows malicious clients that can create instances to exploit unvalidated custom volume names in the backup index.yaml files. By importing a malicious instance backup containing ../ sequences, attackers can create directories that are owned by root and contain user-controlled content. This vulnerability poses a significant risk as it can lead directly to a complete compromise of the host system.
