What is CVE-2026-116178?

A denial of service vulnerability exists in vLLM versions prior to 0.30.0, allowing remote attackers to disrupt service by sending malformed multimodal metadata to the /inference/v1/generate endpoint. By exploiting misconfigured mm_placeholders or sending incompatible kwargs_data and mm_hashes, attackers can trigger a negative text span during engine position construction in Qwen2.5-VL, causing the engine to become unresponsive. This vulnerability necessitates immediate attention to prevent potential service outages.
