What is CVE-2026-116497?

A vulnerability exists in GSSProxy where a NULL pointer dereference occurs when processing a GSSX_INIT_SEC_CONTEXT request that lacks the target_name field. This issue allows any local user to crash the GSSProxy daemon via its Unix socket, leading to a persistent denial of service. The crash disrupts not only GSSProxy itself but also affects dependent services like Kerberized NFS and IdM, as the daemon does not restart automatically, leading to prolonged service outages.
