What is CVE-2026-116779?

Prior to version 1.11.3, FreeSWITCH is susceptible to a vulnerability in the sofia_presence_handle_sip_i_message() function that mishandles the parsing of SIP MESSAGE requests. By improperly splitting the 'To' user on a plus sign, it allows attackers to leverage the chat protocol selector. This exploitation can enable unauthorized execution of FreeSWITCH API commands, which include executing operating-system commands with elevated privileges. The vulnerability affects both authenticated and unauthenticated users under certain configurations, facilitating attacks that can lead to configuration leaks, credential exposure, arbitrary call control, and unauthorized command execution. This deficiency has been observed in active exploitation in the field. The issue has been addressed in version 1.11.3.
