What is CVE-2026-116804?

A vulnerability has been identified in DOMPurify versions 3.4.4 up to 3.4.16, which allows a SAFE_FOR_TEMPLATES bypass. Attackers can exploit this weakness by preserving template expressions in attached shadow roots when operating in RETURN_DOM, RETURN_DOM_FRAGMENT, or IN_PLACE modes. They can strategically split expressions across text nodes that are separated by disallowed elements, leading to a risk where these expressions can merge after their removal, ultimately being evaluated by downstream template engines. This creates opportunities for cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks, endangering web applications that rely on DOMPurify for sanitization.
