What is CVE-2026-116884?

SemanticMediaWiki versions 5.0.0 through 7.3.1 are prone to a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability that arises from the improper handling of data-* attributes in ext.smw.tooltip.tippy.js. When allowHTML is enabled, editors can inject malicious payloads using attributes such as data-content, data-title, data-top, data-bottom, or data-theme. These payloads can execute JavaScript code when hovering over the crafted .smw-highlighter span, which poses a significant risk to both regular users and administrators.
