What is CVE-2026-120454?

The Sleuth Kit up to version 4.15.0 is vulnerable to a NULL pointer dereference in the decmpfs_decompress_lzvn_attr() function. This vulnerability can be exploited by attackers who supply a crafted HFS+ image containing a maliciously constructed LZVN inline com.apple.decmpfs attribute. When the decoder processes this incorrect input, it can lead to a failure in memory allocation, resulting in a crash of the tool during its operation, thus causing a denial of service. It's crucial for users of The Sleuth Kit to be aware of this risk and take necessary precautions.

Affected Version(s)

The Sleuth Kit 0 <= 4.15.0
