What is CVE-2026-123598?

A vulnerability exists in Hickory DNS where the validating recursor improperly caches DNSSEC-bogus answers. This flaw affects versions 0.25.0 to 0.26.0-alpha.1 of the hickory-recursor, as well as hickory-resolver and hickory-net versions prior to 0.26.2. Attackers can exploit this by spoofing an authoritative response with an invalid signature and a long TTL, allowing them to maintain control over misleading DNS information for up to 24 hours. This poses a significant risk as malicious actors can manipulate user traffic and disrupt normal operations.

Affected Version(s)

hickory-dns 0.25.0 <= 0.26.0-alpha.1

hickory-dns 0.26.0-alpha.1 < 0.26.2
