Denial of Service Vulnerability in DHCPCD's IPv6 Router Advertisement Processing by NetworkConfiguration
CVE-2026-14258
6.5MEDIUM
What is CVE-2026-14258?
A vulnerability has been identified in DHCPCD related to the processing of IPv6 Neighbor Discovery Router Advertisements. The flaw arises when a specially crafted IPv6 Router Advertisement includes a zero-length Neighbor Discovery option, which bypasses necessary validation checks during packet storage. This leads to a situation where the packet is reparsed without adequate validation, potentially causing the parser to enter a non-advancing loop. If exploited, this can result in excessive consumption of CPU resources, ultimately impacting system performance and availability.
