Unauthorized Slot Verification in MCUboot Affects Nordic Semiconductor Products
CVE-2026-14296
7.5HIGH
What is CVE-2026-14296?
A vulnerability exists in MCUboot where the Direct XIP update strategy allows the main application to initiate other cores based solely on the current active slot, without appropriate verification measures. The bare configuration of MCUboot presumes that having one slot available for each image signals the system's bootability. Consequently, this oversight may result in the system booting from an incorrect slot, causing a deployment of different images, such as executing a radio application from an unauthorized slot instead of the designated one.
