Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in IBM AIX and PowerVM Products
CVE-2026-16877
8.8HIGH
What is CVE-2026-16877?
Certain versions of IBM AIX (7.2 and 7.3) and IBM PowerVM (VIOS 4.1) have a vulnerability that enables a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code. This is due to a stack-based buffer overflow, which occurs when a program writes more data to a buffer than it can hold, potentially allowing the attacker to overwrite executable memory. Through exploitation, the attacker could execute malicious code with the privileges of the affected software processes, potentially leading to unauthorized actions within the system.
