Heap Out-of-Bounds Read in GDK-Pixbuf Affects GNOME Products
CVE-2026-18090

6.1MEDIUM

What is CVE-2026-18090?

A flaw in gdk-pixbuf allows remote attackers to exploit specially crafted Apple Icon Image (.icns) files to trigger a heap out-of-bounds read in the uncompress() function. This occurs due to insufficient validation of the source buffer's boundaries during the decompression of RLE-encoded ICNS icon data. Successful exploitation could lead to a denial of service, causing the application to crash, or result in sensitive information being disclosed from adjacent memory.
