Kernel Vulnerability in Linux System Impacting IDPF Interface Functionality
CVE-2026-22993
What is CVE-2026-22993?
A vulnerability within the Linux kernel related to the IDPF component can lead to a NULL pointer dereference when executing specific ethtool commands immediately after a soft reset. This occurs due to the improper handling of the RSS LUT, which is freed but not restored unless the network interface is active. The issue manifests when the interface is brought down, a queue count is updated, and an attempt is made to display the RSS LUT. If the command is issued during this brief period, it results in a fatal error that can crash the system. Developers are advised to implement corrections that only reset the RSS LUT under appropriate conditions to mitigate this risk.
