What is CVE-2026-23097?

A deadlock vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel related to hugetlb file folios, where tasks could become stuck waiting for locks in an improper order. Specifically, one task holds the folio_lock while attempting to acquire the i_mmap_rwsem in read mode, while another task holds the i_mmap_rwsem in write mode and tries to obtain the folio_lock. This situation can lead to system instability and resource contention, impacting performance and availability. To mitigate this issue, modifications should be made to lock management to ensure proper ordering of lock acquisitions.
