What is CVE-2026-23217?

A deadlock vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel specifically affecting RISC-V systems due to improper handling of function tracing for sbi_ecall functions. When these functions are traceable, invoking the __sbi_ecall function can lead to an endless loop of snapshot requests to the ringbuffer, resulting in a complete system stall. This can be easily triggered with periodic sbi ecalls issued by the timer subsystem on specific RISC-V configurations. To mitigate this issue, it is essential to exclude sbi_ecall.c functions from tracing fully, which poses minimal limitations for logging necessary events.
