What is CVE-2026-23389?

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel affects network components due to improper memory management in the ice_set_ringparam function. When allocating resources for transmission (tx_rings) and extended packet data (xdp_rings), the function fails to appropriately handle failures in resource allocation for reception (rx_rings). This oversight leads to potential memory leaks where both tx_rings and xdp_rings are not freed when allocation fails, potentially impacting system performance and stability. A fix has been implemented to address this by ensuring that both tx_rings and xdp_rings are properly released in case of allocation failures, enhancing the reliability of networking operations.
