What is CVE-2026-23532?

FreeRDP, a widely used free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol, has a vulnerability that leads to a client-side heap buffer overflow. This issue arises from a mismatch between destination rectangle clamping and the copy size within the gdi_SurfaceToSurface function. An attacker controlling a malicious server can exploit this vulnerability to trigger the heap overflow, potentially leading to client crashes (Denial of Service) and risks of heap corruption, with possible code execution depending on the allocator and surrounding heap layout. It is critical to upgrade to version 3.21.0 or later to mitigate this risk.
