What is CVE-2026-24843?

The melange product by Chainguard is subject to a path traversal vulnerability, allowing an attacker with influence over the tar stream from a QEMU guest VM to write files outside the secured workspace directory on the host system. This occurs due to the retrieveWorkspace function failing to properly validate paths, which can lead to exploitation through the use of '../' sequences in the file paths. Users are urged to upgrade to version 0.40.3 or later, where this issue has been addressed.
