Path Traversal Vulnerability in Calibre eBook Manager
CVE-2026-25636
What is CVE-2026-25636?
Calibre, a popular eBook management application, contains a path traversal vulnerability in its EPUB conversion feature. In versions 9.1.0 and earlier, a specially crafted malicious EPUB file can exploit this vulnerability, allowing attackers to corrupt arbitrary files within the writable directories of the Calibre process. The vulnerability arises when Calibre incorrectly resolves the CipherReference URI from the META-INF/encryption.xml file, leading it to access files outside the designated conversion extraction directory in read-write mode. This issue has been addressed in the subsequent release, version 9.2.0.
