What is CVE-2026-25792?

Greenshot is an open source screenshot utility for Windows that suffers from a binary hijacking vulnerability in versions 1.3.312 and earlier. The issue arises when a user activates the application via its tray icon, prompting it to launch explorer.exe without using an absolute path. A local attacker can exploit this flaw by placing a malicious executable with the same name as the legitimate Windows binary in a directory that is searched prior to the correct one. This can enable arbitrary code execution within the context of the Greenshot application, posing a significant security risk. As of the publication date, no patch has been issued to mitigate this vulnerability.
