What is CVE-2026-25955?

An issue has been identified in FreeRDP, an open-source implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol, where the function xf_AppUpdateWindowFromSurface improperly reuses a cached XImage. This occurs because it holds a reference to a data pointer of a freed RDPGFX surface buffer, as gdi_DeleteSurface frees surface->data without updating the corresponding appWindow->image reference. This flaw can lead to undefined behavior, potentially allowing for exploitation through crafted RDP sessions. The issue has been addressed in version 3.23.0.
