What is CVE-2026-26224?

Intego Log Reporter, a macOS tool for diagnostic log collection, has a vulnerability that allows local unprivileged users to leverage a time-of-check to time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition. This occurs due to insecure handling of files in the /tmp directory, where a root-executed script can create and write files without proper restrictions. An attacker can exploit this by creating a symlink to manipulate files, resulting in unauthorized file modifications in privileged system areas and ultimately escalating their privileges to root.

Affected Version(s)

Log Reporter MacOS 0 <= 10.9.*

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
