What is CVE-2026-26973?

Discourse, an influential open-source discussion platform, has a vulnerability in the ReviewableNotesController which affects versions before 2025.12.2, 2026.1.1, and 2026.2.0. This issue arises when the enable_category_group_moderation feature is enabled, allowing users in moderation groups to create or delete notes linked to any reviewable, even those outside their moderation scope. The flaw is due to an unscoped Reviewable.find method and insufficient checks in the ensure_can_see guard, which only verifies general access to the review queue rather than specific reviewables. This vulnerability does not affect admin or moderator accounts due to their inherent permissions. Version updates and configuration adjustments can mitigate risks effectively.
