What is CVE-2026-29090?

A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in Rucio versions 1.30.0 and later before 35.8.5, 38.5.5, 39.4.2, and 40.1.1. This flaw arises in the FilterEngine.create_postgres_query() method, where any authenticated user can execute arbitrary SQL queries against the PostgreSQL metadata database through the DID search endpoint (GET /dids/<scope>/dids/search). When using the postgres_meta metadata plugin, attacker-controlled filter keys and values are directly interpolated into SQL statements via Python’s .format(), causing the SQL strings to be treated as trusted. Consequently, this vulnerability can allow attackers to access sensitive data, modify or delete metadata, and even invoke code execution using features of PostgreSQL like COPY ... FROM PROGRAM, depending on the privileges of the service account. The issue impacts deployments utilizing the postgres_meta plugin and has been remediated in versions 35.8.5, 38.5.5, 39.4.2, and 40.1.1.
