What is CVE-2026-29508?
ReadyMedia versions 1.3.0 through 1.3.3 are susceptible to a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability that can be exploited by remote attackers. This flaw occurs when a specially crafted DFF audio file containing an oversized PROP chunk size is processed. The vulnerability allows attackers to manipulate stack memory due to the lack of validation on the size input used for dynamic stack allocation. When a malicious DFF file is placed in a directory watched by ReadyMedia, automatic parsing can occur through inotify. This can lead to unauthorized remote code execution in less secure setups or cause denial of service in environments with stack protections applied.
Affected Version(s)
ReadyMedia (MiniDLNA) 1.3.0 <= 1.3.3
Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)
PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
