Improper Hostname Canonicalization in util-linux Affects Access Control
CVE-2026-3184

3.7LOW

What is CVE-2026-3184?

A vulnerability exists in the util-linux package where improper hostname canonicalization in the login(1) utility, when using the -h option, can lead to modification of the specified remote hostname. This misconfiguration may enable a remote attacker to provide a crafted hostname that can circumvent host-based Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM) access controls dependent on fully qualified domain names. Such exploitation raises the risk of unauthorized system access, posing a serious security threat to affected systems.
